So you’ve moved into a new house or apartment, and you’re just getting settled in. You’ve got a standing tub and shower with no barrier, so you find you’re in need of a new shower curtain.

There are a ton of options available to you. There are plenty of curtains depending on what you have in mind for your bathroom’s style.

But when you were shopping around, maybe you ran into a new option you haven’t seen before.

PEVA shower curtains have become a more popular option over the last few years, though a lot of shoppers still haven’t noticed.

But what is a PEVA shower curtain? Is it safe for my baby? Is it machine washable?

We’ve got your answers here.

What is PEVA?

PEVA is a commonly used material found in a lot of household items.  PEVA (polyethylene vinyl acetate) Some items in your very house may be made from it. This can include:

  • Protective Car & Motorcycle Coverings
  • Shoes
  • Protective Mattress Coverings
  • Makeup & Cosmetic Bags
  • Plastic Table Coverings
  • Toys

As it is a commonplace material, it is considered to be safe to handle in the household. PEVA is created chemically with a variety of materials. It was created to be a less-toxic substitute for PVC (polyvinyl chloride) items, which used to be a more prominent material until PEVA was invented.

Why Does PEVA Make a Good Shower Curtain?

Made with a cheap but durable material

PEVA is extremely durable and long lasting,

Is PEVA Safe?

There has not been an official conclusion reached regarding the safety of using PEVA products. However, PEVA has been definitively determined to be a safer alternative to PVC products. This is due to the lack of chlorine used in the creation process.

Some allergic responses have been reported by people who were unaware of their allergies to PEVA.

In terms of safety, the use of PEVA items is generally safe, and ultimately depends on the discretion of the individual using it.

Is PEVA Safe for Babies?

Mild caution is advised when exposing babies to PEVA products.

Some toys and products, like baby bibs, are made from PEVA material, and are considered safe. However, some of the chemicals used in the creation process of PEVA have the potential to cause adverse effects in infants whose immune systems may not be fully developed yet.

With some caution and discretion on the parent’s part, it is generally safe for babies to be exposed to PEVA.

All in all, PEVA products are generally safe to use, and are a great alternative to other types of cheap shower curtains. Most department stores carry PEVA items, and can come in their own variety of designs and looks. You’re more than likely to find something to fit exactly what you need.
